Summary: Amenes, Pharaoh of Egypt, rejects daughter of Ethiopian king in favor of Greek slave-girl, Theonis. Insulted, the Ethiopian king wages war against Egypt. Before battle, Amenes orders Theonis to be locked up, after she confesses her love for Ramphis. Amenes' troops are defeated, and Ramphis rescues Theonis, leads Egypt to victory against Ethiopia, and becomes Pharaoh. Amenes returns, and Ramphis offers to relinquish the throne if Amenes releases Theonis.
