|Summary:||More than 100 million citizens in the U.S. can trace their ancestry to an immigrant who landed at New York's Ellis Island. This program ferries viewers to the Ellis Island Immigration Museum, where visitors retrace the footsteps of those who first touched American soil there. The museum's oral history project and exhibits present the voices and artifacts of immigrants who, fearing deportation yet filled with hope, arrived with only what they could carry: a cooking pot, religious artifacts, traditional clothing-everyday things they thought important enough to bring all the way to the New World.
