Scope and Content: Travel diary of Louise Pettit documenting a trip she took with her family from Ottawa, Illinois, toward California across Missouri and Kansas. Based on the content of the diary, Pettit was probably an adolescent or young adult at the time of the trip. The Pettits traveled west by automobile on a camping trip with the Davis family. The diary includes descriptions of locations along the way, including Dodge City, Missouri, the Santa Fe Trail, and the Dust Bowl regions of Kansas, and recounts the repair of a flat tire and games that Louise Pettit played with her friend Fanny Davis.
