520 |aLetters written from Fort Schuyler during 1778 to Gov. Clinton, Gen. Schuyler, Judge Jay, and Hendrick Herkimer and the other justices of the peace along the Mohawk River, regarding military issues and Indian relations, together with Willett's history of his service in the Mohawk Valley, 1781-1782.|bIn an Apr. 8, 1778, letter to Gov. Clinton, Willett discusses an Oneida proposal to build a road between Fort Schuyler and the Oneida Castle, his regiment's lack of clothing, and his willingness to serve wherever there might be enemy action. Drafts of three letters on one sheet (Apr. 29, 1778) to the governor, Gen. Schuyler, and Judge Jay contain Willett's suggestions to the Commissioners of Indian Affairs regarding the necessity of strengthening ties with the Six Nations. The May 28, 1778, letter upbraids Herkimer and other Mohawk Valley justices for the detention of a messenger sent from Fort Schuyler to Albany. Written sometime after 1782, Willett's history describes the 1781 actions at Sharon and Johnstown. A later explanatory note by Willett's son, William Marinus Willett, follows on p. [4]
