520 8 |aAnnotation|bSince the earliest days of colonial settlement in Australia, immigrants from Wales have played a prominent role, but their place in Australian history and culture has been relatively little-studied. This book focuses on the Welsh immigrant community in the Ballarat/Sebastopol gold mining district of Victoria, offering a micro-level analysis of a Welsh community and the changes it underwent through the second half of the nineteenth century.
