Abstract: "The objective of this paper is to determine the value of several of Lucent Technologies' competitors in the data networking industry who are developing ATM products. An overview of the telecommunications industry and ATM are presented to give the reader a general idea of the industry and ATM's role in transforming the industry. Then, a brief discussion of Lucent Technologies is presented along with some facts regarding its Initial Public Offering in April of 1996. A set of assumptions are presented in order to value 3COM Corporation, Bay Networks, Cisco Systems, General Datacomm, Newbridge Networks and Lucent Technologies using financial information from Value Line and Copeland's Free Cash Flow method. The Weighted Average Cost of Capital is calculated and used as the discount rate to convert the expected cash flows to their present value. Finally, the results of the analysis are interpreted and options presented for Lucent Technologies as it proceeds in the extremely competitive data networking industry."--Author's abstract.
Thesis/Dissertation: Thesis (M.B.A.)--North Central College, 1996.
